The 28-year-old is in line to replace regular number one Emiliano Martinez, who will miss the game following his controversial appearances for Argentina in World Cup qualifying.
It is hoped Martinez will be available for the game against Everton on September 18, but Steer is set to don the gloves at Stamford Bridge.
Steer played in the recent 6-0 win at Barrow in the Carabao Cup and made two appearances in the same competition last season.
But if he plays on Saturday, it will be his first top-flight game since November 2019 when Villa lost 2-1 at Wolves.
Judging by comments on social media, Villa fans have confidence in Steer to fill void created by Martinez’s absence.
Jonathan Wilcox: Jed Steer’s a good keeper. If we didn’t have Martinez I’d have been quite happy for him to wear no.1. Same with Tom Heaton.
John Kingston: Good he definitely needs more games.
Joan Partridge: He’s a good keeper I’ve no worries about having him play this weekend.
Steven Faizey: He will do a job.
James Chandler: Good goalkeeper.
Sean Verdi: Up the steer, wouldn’t be where we are now without him. Let’s get behind him and show some faith.
@BillyWhiz: Have 100% confidence in Jed, top keeper.
